US aluminium plates, sheets and bars exports downtrend by 2.77% in Q3 2024, attributed to Canada

In September 2024, the United States exported 59,400 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and bars, which reflected a M-o-M decline of 7.76 per cent from 64,400 tonnes. The export volume in August decreased by 2.42 per cent from 66,000 tonnes in July.
There has been a continuous declining trend in the United States aluminium plates, sheets and bars exports since May 2024, barring an intermittent hike of 11.68 per cent in July to 66,000 tonnes.
From January to September, the United States' aluminium plates, sheets and bars exports totalled 583,000 tonnes, down by 2.02 per cent from 595,000 tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Canada is the highest importer of aluminium plates, sheets and bars from the United States. Downfall in its import volume affected the United States' total exports. In September 2024, Canada imported 24,800 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and bars, down by 6.06 per cent M-o-M from 26,400 tonnes. Through the first nine months of 2024, Canada imported 247,000 tonnes of the aluminium semi-finished product, compared to 268,000 tonnes a year ago, reflecting a 7.84 per cent Y-o-Y downfall.
Mexico is the second-highest importer of aluminium plates, sheets and bars. USA's YTD exports to Mexico rose but could not offset the United States' total export volume. From January to September, the United States exported 238,000 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and bars, recording an increase of 6.25 per cent from 224,000 tonnes.
